Weapons are the most vital pieces of equipment in Albion Online and the primary factor in a player character's style of combat; they are effectively the closest thing to "classes" in Albion.

There are approximately 50 distinct weapon types within Albion Online, each belonging to one of three basic archetypes, as seen in the Destiny Board:

In addition, each weapon is one of three variants of a family, unlocked in sequence -- for instance, the player must first unlock Broadsword, then its sister weapon Claymore, and finally their sister weapon Glaive. The player is free to focus on and master any or all of these weapon types during this process.

Each weapon type sees a unique ability bound by default to the E key.

Weapons may be one- or two-handed, the former allowing use of a shield or other off-hand item. One-handed weapons cannot be dual-wielded, but certain two-handed weapon types are a pair already such as Dagger Pair and Claws.

Unlocking weapons[edit | edit source]

In order to access a weapon, sufficient Destiny Board progress must be made within its particular archetype -- players initially have access to only the "basic" weapon of each archetype and must "move up" to the specific weapon they want.

Similarly to unlocking Armor, characters must defeat enemies while wielding the proper weapon in order to earn fame towards an archetype and/or towards a specific weapon type, eventually unlocking a new perk.
